WARNING: There be SPOILERS for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie below!
Earlier this week, we provided a breakdown of what goes on in the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie's post-credits scenes —
check that out here. We'll get you up to speed. The first scene reveals the fate of Dr. Robotnik and somewhat teases a sequel. However, it's really the second post-credits scene that amps up the excitement and actually teases a sequel.
This scene introduces Tails. The fan-favourite character is essentially
Sonic the Hedgehog's sidekick and best friend in the video games. He steps through a portal to Earth and goes on about having finally found Sonic — before taking flight and speeding away in search of the blue hedgehog.
If you're a diehard fan of the
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, you may have realised this for yourself but; in this scene, Tails is voiced by Colleen Villard (via
Gamefragger). This voice actress replaced Kate Higgins as the official voice of Tails in 2014 with her debut appearance in the
Sonic Boom animated series. She has played Tails ever since.
Interestingly, Villard was enlisted to reprise the role of Tails despite Roger Craig Smith (the current voice of
Sonic the Hedgehog) being left by the wayside in favour of Ben Schwartz. As she isn't credited in the movie itself, perhaps Villard will be replaced in the sequel just as Smith was.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
