The first official trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel was released yesterday during The Game Awards annual ceremony — more on that here. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will reintroduce Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular speedster and Jim Carrey as, Sonic's nemesis, Dr. Robotnik. Additionally, Jim Carrey and Tika Sumpter will reprise their role, among others.
The video game movie sequel will also introduce new characters in the form of Knuckles the Echidna and Miles Prowler, better known as Tails. The former will be voiced by Idris Elba and, judging by the trailer, serve an antagonistic role — at least at first. The voice of Tails is provided by Colleen O'Shaughnessey who has previously played the character in such franchise entries as Sonic Boom and Team Sonic Racing.
Yesterday's trailer featured our first proper look at Knuckles, while we've known about Tails since the first film debuted — seeing as the yellow fox featured in the first film's post-credits scene. Still, it's nice to get a new look at the characters. Hence why storyboard supervisor and character design lead Tyson Hesse sharing this new piece of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 artwork is so awesome.
This piece clearly leans into Knuckles playing a villainous role. Here we can also see that Sonic has retained his pouch of rings that he used to portal around in the first film, so expect some awesome action that makes use of those in the sequel. Check it out below:
