Gary Whitta is best known for writing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story but was also involved with the narrative development of such games as Duke Nukem Forever, Prey, and Gears of War. He also began his career as a video games journalist. Basically, he's a big fan of gaming.

Raf Grassetti served as the Art Director for 2018's acclaimed God of War video game and recently published a stunning piece of artwork which realistically adapts the characters of the popular Star Fox video game series — including Fox Cloud, his team, and the villainous Wolf O'Donnell.

Whitta noticed this artwork (via Gamefragger) and retweeted it with an additional statement in which he makes it clear that he would love to be involved in an animated film adaptation of Star Fox.

Given that there's a Super Mario Bros. movie currently in the works at Illumination Entertainment, Nintendo is certainly open to Hollywood adapting their beloved franchises. With a professional screenwriter expressing their interest in writing a Star Fox movie, it certainly seems likely that one will eventually see the light of day.
