Singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams is once again teaming up with Illumination and Universal Pictures, this time to serve as the narrator in the upcoming animated film
The Grinch.
Pharrell is no stranger to working with Illumination, having provided the music for all three of the studio's
Despicable Me movies. His Oscar-nominated hit "
Happy" was featured in
Despicable Me 2.
Williams took to Twitter to announce the exciting news and posted a short clip of himself narrating in the film. It's certainly a refreshing, more contemporary tone to the story.
Additionally, Illumination also released
the latest trailer for The Grinch. It didn't feature Pharrell Williams' narration; but, we did get to hear Tyler, the Creator's re-imagined version of the classic theme
"You're A Mean One," which he collaborated with Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman on. Tyler, the Creator has also written an original song,
"I Am The Grinch," and will perform it for the film.
Illumination's
The Grinch is based on Dr. Seuss' classic story
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The general premise of the grumpy green guy trying to steal Christmas from the Whos is still the focus of the story, but it looks like Illumination's signature humor will provide a nice wrinkle on a story that's been adapted numerous times before.
Illumination's
The Grinch arrives in theaters on November 9, 2018.
