In Cineverse's Warrior King (not to be confused the 2006 Tony Jaa action movie of the same name), no beast or monster is a match for the mighty Gesar.
The Epic of King Gesar is considered a classic in the region of Central Asia and was a folktale passed down for over 1,000 years in poetry and prose, with the Tibetan version now considered the most popular. The story is thought to have originated around 200 BCE and persists to this day.
The story has some parallels to Heracles/Hercules as Gesar was said to be born to divine lineage and that his destiny was to defend his people from mythological monsters and demons.
The film's stylized CG animation is said to be inspired by the artwork featured on ancient Tibetan Buddhist fabric paintings.
In a press release, Cineverse’s Chief Content Officer Yolanda Macias stated, “Epic films are meant to be experienced on the big screen. Warrior King invites fans of fantasy animation to embark on a captivating co-viewing experience showcasing the extraordinary strength, intelligence and courage of King Gesar, the qualities that define a true warrior.”
The English dub voice cast features Brandon Hunt, Olivia Springer, Marisa Blake, Blake Talley, Richard Epcar, Ron Whittemore, Katie Leigh, Ian Russell, Jimmie Yamaguchi, Matt Dunn, Phillip Sacramento, Madison Garris, Grant Corvin, Joey Sourlis, and Brittany St. John.
The Warrior King will hit theaters nationwide on August 25.
