We've known that there's a
Mortal Kombat animated movie in the works for a long while now but concrete details were finally revealed just yesterday. It was announced that the likes of Joel McHale (
Community) and Jennifer Carpenter (
Dexter) will star as Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade respectively —
among others.
Based on the popular video games of the same name, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge will be directed Ethan Spaulding (
Batman: Assault on Arkham) from a script by Jeremy Adams (
Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans). Producers include Jim Krieg (
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Rick Morales (
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders).
Ed Boon is one of the creators of the
Mortal Kombat franchise and also directed the most recent instalment — that being
Mortal Kombat 11. Following yesterday's announcement,
Boon took to Twitter to tease that the animated movie will be just as brutal as its source material — which will certainly come as a relief to hardcore fans of
Mortal Kombat.
