According to a new report by Discussing Film, Disney/Fox are in the early stages of developing spinoffs for both the Ice Age and Rio animated franchises. Blue Sky Studios are responsible for both of the film series — the former of which kicked off way back in 2002 and has had quite a few instalments. Rio debuted in 2011 and Rio 2 arrived three years later in 2014.

Blue Sky are also responsible for The Peanuts Movie, Robots, Ferdinand, and the upcoming Spies in Disguise movie which will star Tom Holland and Will Smith — find out more on that last one here.

Apparently, Disney are looking for a Rio spinoff which would follow the characters of Nico and Pedro — that pair was voiced by Jamie Foxx and Will.I.Am respectively. The Ice Age spinoff would focus on Buck — who featured in three of the Ice Age films and was voiced by Simon Pegg. It's unknown whether the actors would reprise their roles in the spinoffs.

Disney+ is set to launch on November 12th, 2019.
