Of Arendelle's royal sisters, Anna was moreso the protagonist of the first Frozen movie than Elsa. However, in the upcoming Frozen sequel, it seems that Elsa will be taking centre stage.

With this happening, many believed that Frozen 2 would see the snow queen set up with a romantic interest. In fact, many thought that Elsa could be turned into a role model for the LGBT community and have a same-sex love interest.

Back in 2016, #GiveElsaAGirlfriend trended on Twitter. Idina Menzel, the actress who plays Elsa, commented on the viral suggestion and showed support for the idea — saying as follows: “I think it’s a wonderful idea. It’s a wonderful conversation that we should all have about whether a Disney princess or queen could be gay.”

However, despite all of that, the songwriter for Frozen and its upcoming sequel recently shot down the idea. Kristen Anderson-Lopez said (via Gay Times) that Elsa doesn't require a love interest nor will she get one in Frozen 2.

“Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest. There’s so many movies that define a woman by her romantic interest. That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time.” That doesn't negate it happening in a future instalment though.

The songwriter continued, stating what Elsa will actually be all about in the upcoming animated film. “What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven’t been found before?”

Frozen 2 will arrive in theatres on November 22nd, 2019.
