Detective Pikachu finally arrived in theatres a couple of weeks back and introduced us to a world full to the brim with
Pokemon. The live-action movie did feature an incredible amount of the lovable creatures but some unfortunately didn't make the cut. The film's screenwriters recently featured on a podcast wherein they revealed some which were close to appearing in the film but were ultimately left out.
Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez told
Comicbook.com that both Zubat, Golbat, and Gardevoir almost featured in
Detective Pikachu before revealing the one
Pokemon that they insisted should appear in the film.
Hernandez first explained that,
"For a while, we had a cool sequence with a Golbat that I really liked. That was a really cool sequence that just didn't quite make it to the end of the process." Samit then briefly mentioned that,
"Gardevoir had a cool moment. There were so many different, all the different drafts along the way..."
It sure would've been interesting to see a realistic take on Golbat and Gardevoir. Samit then brought up a Pokemon that did make it into the film, revealing that they wanted Psyduck to be involved as soon as they were brought on board:
"Truth be told, our favorite, we're happy that our favorite did make it in and that is Psyduck. Truly on day 1 our first meeting on this project it was before Psyduck was involved with it and we came in and I think the first thing we said to the producers was, 'Psyduck needs to be in this movie, needs to be Lucy's Pokemon partner and he will be the comedic breakout character.'"
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
