Yi is a teenage girl who lives in modern day Shanghai and discovers a yeti on the roof of her apartment. Naming it Everest, she and her friends make it their mission to reunite the mythical creature with its family atop the highest point on Earth.
It's directed by Jill Culton (
Open Season) and stars Chloe Bennet (
Marvel's Agents of S.H.E.L.D.) as Yi. Also included in the voice cast are the following actors: Albert Tsai, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Eddie Izzard, Sarah Paulson, Tsai Chin and Michelle Wong.
Experts predicted that
Abominable will make between $17 million and
$20 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. The film reportedly had a $5.7 million opening on Friday (via
Comicbook.com) — putting
Abominable at the top of the charts.
Downton Abbey was in second place with an estimated $14.6 million and
Hustlers after that with $11.6 million.
We'll simply have to wait and see whether
Abominable will fall short of or exceed its predicted $20 million opening weekend. Stay tuned.
