Today is Disney+ Day, a special event in which Disney celebrates the two-year anniversary of its streaming service. The company did so by giving subscribers even more to look forward to, including a new Spider-Man animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
Written by Executive Producer Jeff Trammel, Spider-Man: Freshman Year "follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots."
Based on the logline, it's possible the series will serve as a prequel to the Spider-Man we've seen swining around on the big screen for years now. Peter Parker made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, and he already had his powers then. This series will likely be set prior to these events, possibly serving as another origin story of sorts or at least showing us what he was up to before running into Tony Stark.
It's unclear if Tom Holland will return for the animated series or if Peter Parker will be voiced by actor Hudson Thames, who voiced him in another animated Marvel series, Marvel's What If...?
In addition to the new Spider-Man series, Marvel also announced X-Men '97, a continuaton of the beloved '90s X-Men: The Animtaed Series. You can learn more about there here.
