WHAT IF...?: Steve Rogers Flies Into Action In His Powered-Up HYDRA Stomper In New Clip

Ahead of the premiere of Marvel Studios' What If...?, we've got a new clip featuring the debut of Steve Rogers in his tank-busting HYDRA Stomper. Turns out he's a capable hero even without Super Soldier Serum.

In one of the episodes of Marvel Studios' What If...?, fans will get a look at how the battle against HYDRA would have played out if it was Peggy Carter who took the Super Soldier Serum and not Steve Rogers. As it turns out, the man we know in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would still find a way to help fight for his country.

In a new clip from the upcoming animated series, we see Steve Rogers make his grand debut in a giant mech-like suit known as The HYDRA Stomper. With Peggy, known in this universe as Captain Carter, pinned down with Bucky Barnes and  Dum Dum Dugan, the call for air support is met by an eager Steve Rogers. We then see the HYDRA Stomper fly in and lay waste to a couple of enemy tanks.

Beyond how cool it is to see Captain Carter and Steve Rogers in this alternate universe, another major takeaway is just how amazing What If...? looks from an animation standpoint. While there was initial consideration to use a style based on the comic art of Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko, the series ultimately chose to go the route of classic American illustration, inspired by the likes of J.C. Leyendecker and Normal Rockwell. Ultimately, I think it works, but check out the clip below and let us know your thoughts!

Marvel's What If...? is set to debut on August 11 exclusively on Disney+. Season One will consist of nine episodes that run about 30 minutes in length.
