While casual viewers have been surprised to see billboards and endless advertising on the web, hardcore Marvel Cinematic Universe followers completely understand why that is.
If What If...? wasn't ambitious enough with the mere concept of the series, which alters events from the movies MCU fans have seen over the years with a returning cast, the fact that it is an animated series is truly groundbreaking. Although Marvel Studios have pursued numerous genres throughout and past The Infinity Saga, an animation that is canon with the live-action films from the last 13 years is unheard of and can affect how many viewers approach the story-telling medium.
The latest promotion advertising What If...? is a tie-in with Hyundai, a vehicle company that has been lurking in the MCU for years, with this hardly being the first crossover. Marvel Studios' first animated series, What If...?, starts streaming August 11 with new episodes Wednesdays on Disney+. “What If… ?” features fan-favorite characters, including Peggy Carter, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Killmonger, Thor and more. The new series, directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley as head writer, features signature MCU action with a curious twist.
