2021 has been a treat for Marvel Studios fans as more content has been released in the last six months than the previous two years combined. Disney+ subscribers have already had the chance to revisit the Marvel Cinematic Universe with WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and Black Widow.
Next week, however, will see the streaming service premiere Marvel Studios' most ambitious project so far, What If...? Not only is it the first animated project to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Multiverse, but the series features voice performances from over fifty actors reprising their perspective characters.
Most importantly among the voice cast is Chadwick Boseman, whose last performance will be T'challa, with multiple versions of the character. In a recent interview, Brad Winderbaum, the executive producer of Marvel's What If...?, confirmed that T'challa wouldn't only be heard in one episode. Instead, the EP revealed that the late Chadwick Boseman actually recorded dialogue for four episodes in total.
"He's in four episodes, actually. He plays different versions of the character. I wouldn't say that anything changed drastically. We wanted to honor, frankly, his performance and his eagerness to be a part of the project. In retrospect, he recorded these episodes for us, knowing what we all know now.
We wanted to honor what he did, so we actually didn't change a lot of it. There were certain things, in the context of his passing, especially musically...Lauren Karpman delivered what I think is an incredible score for the entire series, and the way she approached T'Challa throughout, especially in light of his passing, is really beautiful."
