Two new TV spots for Disney's Wish have been released, showcasing the powerful singing voice of Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose, who stars as the film's heroine, Asha. Check them out below.
In a year that saw Sony's Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse and Universal's Super Mario Bros. Movie grab the majority of headlines focusing on 2023's best-animated films, Disney Animation will be looking to enter the conversation with Wish.
Exiting COVID's moratorium on theaters, Disney had an unprecedented flop in the form of Strange World, and Disney-owned Pixar also stumbled with Lightyear. Elemental also stumbled out of the starting blocks before finding its footing and trudging forward to eke out a tidy profit.
Wish looks to be a return to normalcy for Disney as it's a tale that takes place in a magic kingdom with an evil wizard serving as the film's antagonist.
Last month, the film had a special presentation at the Destination D23 Event at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL where attendees were given the chance to see the first 10 minutes of the film.
Although the clip was not made public, there was significant word of mouth on social media, with many proclaiming Wish to be a must-see film.
In “Wish,” Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star.
Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.
Featuring the voices of Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Asha’s favorite goat, Valentino, the film is helmed by Oscar-winning director Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”), produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and co-produced by Juan Pablo Reyes (“Encanto”).
Jennifer Lee (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) executive produces, and also co-wrote the script alongside Allison Moore (“Night Sky,” “Manhunt”).
With original songs by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice, plus score by composer Dave Metzger.
Wish opens only in theaters on Nov. 22, 2023.
