Disney+ Day, a celebration of the second year anniversary of the streaming service, was filled with tons of exciting announcements and reveals, including our first look at Tiana. Walt Disney Animation Studios shared new concept art from the long-form musical series which is a spinoff of the animated feature The Princess and the Frog.
The series will follow Tiana as she sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia. The image shows Tiana running across the deck of a ship with luggage in hand. You can see various floral bursts of color in the reflection of the water which appears to reference the taglines teaser: "a calling to her New Orleans past isn't far behind!"
Tiana is directed and written by Stella Meghie, writer and directed of The Weekend and The Photograph. Meghie's directorial credits also include episodes of Grown-ish, First Wives Club, and Insecure.
Tiana will arrive on Disney+ in 2023. It is a sequel series to the 2009 animated musical feature The Princess and the Frog, which tells the story of the hardworking waitress who dreams of opening her own restaurant but ends up being turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor. The film follows Tiana's adventure to turn back into a human before it's too late.
