Star Wars: The Clone Wars originally debuted back in 2008 but was canceled in 2013 and never got to properly conclude. Thankfully, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was revived for one final season on Disney's relatively new streaming service, Disney+. The seventh season premiered back in February and aired weekly until May 4th (Star Wars Day) wherein the animated series finally came to a proper conclusion.
The final season consisted of episodes that were originally conceived all those years ago but never got finished. The first couple of episodes in the seventh season follow Captain Rex and Anakin Skywalker as they work with a unique band of Clone troopers known as "The Bad Batch." Each member of the squad is uniquely exceptional at a certain thing, be it accuracy, strength, etc.
Well, Disney has officially announced that this batch of characters will be the stars of their very own animated series on Disney+. Titled Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the series will follow the squad's escapades shortly following Order 66 A.K.A. the Jedi Purge. The series will debut exclusively on the streaming service in 2021.
Agnes Chu, Senior Vice President of content for Disney+, had the following to say about the newly announced Star Wars animated series (via StarWars.com):
Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series. While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.
Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) returns to executive produce along with Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS). Rau also serves as supervising director and Corbett as head writer.
