Things have quietened down on the Snow White front in recent weeks, something we're sure Disney is mightily relieved about. Today, some newly surfaced Mattel merchandise has revealed a first look at the costume Rachel Zegler's version of the iconic character will wear on screen.
It's definitely accurate to the original cartoon, though that was to be expected after the all-too-familiar dress was previously spotted in set photos. As for Gal Gadot's Evil Queen, we have just a fleeting glance of what she'll look like in the reboot.
When it was first announced, we expected Disney's live-action Snow White movie to be another potentially very good remake from the studio. Little could any of us have guessed it would end up being so incredibly divisive.
From the decision to scrap the Seven Dwarfs to resurfaced comments from Zegler in which the Shazam! Fury of the Gods star described Prince Florian as a "stalker," much of the goodwill for this movie quickly went up in smoke.
While there are those who are hating on Snow White very much for the sake of it (and, disgustingly, because Zegler is Latina), it's also easy enough to understand why some fans of the 1937 animated classic aren't looking forward to the reboot.
While the movie is currently scheduled for March 22, 2024, it was recently reported that it will "almost certainly move off that date."
Given the recent negative reaction to this latest take on the iconic fairy tale, there's a slim chance Disney is planning reshoots. Either way, the news that Dune: Part Two has shifted from November 3 to March 15 could also be a major contributing factor to an eventual release date shift.
Very little has been revealed about director Marc Webb's (The Amazing Spider-Man) Snow White plans, though we know the screenplay was written by Barbie director Greta Gerwig and playwright Erin Cressida Wilson.
In terms of cast, the movie stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, Martin Klebba as Grumpy, and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan. We're not expecting an overly faithful adaptation of the cartoon, hence why many familiar names are missing from that list.
