Late last month, the news broke that Ahsoka Tano will feature in the second season of Disney+ original series The Mandalorian. Ahsoka Tano is, of course, a fan-favourite character who stars in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Trained by Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, Ahsoka went on to ditch the ways of the Jedi in effort to craft her own path.
She reemerged during the Galactic Civil War and assisted in the formation of the Rebellion by training Ezra Bridger and taking on, her former master, Darth Vader himself. She was last seen alongside Sabine Wren shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi and the end of the war.
That's exactly when The Mandalorian takes place (after Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi but long before Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens). Reports claimed that Rosario Dawson had been cast in the role. She's best known for Briarpatch and The Defenders. Long had the actress petitioned to play Ahsoka in live-action, so it all seems to add up.
During a recent interview with Variety, Dawson commented on the rumours. She began by expressing her love for the science-fiction franchise; "The two universes, Star Trek and Star Wars. I get in those two, I’m telling you, man, that’s it. I will just retire. And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office. That would be it."
However, particularly on the casting, Dawson clarified that it hasn't been confirmed just yet. "That’s no confirmation yet but when that happens, I will be very happy. I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point." Now, this statement can either be taken as confirmation in and of itself or the entirely adverse option. Basically, it's up in the air at the moment.
