Remy's Ratatouille Adventure in Walt Disney World's EPCOT will be temporarily closed next month as part of a major overhaul to the attraction. Walt Disney World confirmed that the attraction will be closed from November 10-13, 2025.
But when it reopens it will no longer be the same experience. The ride is transitioning from a 3D experience into 2D.
"Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will experience a short downtime Nov. 10-13, 2025 and will return with enhanced digital visuals and clearer imagery projected in 2D," the theme park announced. "Remy’s fans will spot new props and lighting enhancements when they are added to the queue and attraction over the next few months."
The decision to update the popular EPCOT attraction comes shortly after Disneyland Paris permanently switched its version of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure from 3D to 2D, a change that has received positive feedback from guests.
Once considered the more immersive option, 3D has fallen out of favor in recent years. While Disney hasn’t shared a specific reason for the shift, the move will likely make the experience more accessible to a wider audience. Many guests find 3D to have noticeable drawbacks, such as dimmer visuals, blurriness, and an increased risk of motion sickness.
Having ridden Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, I wouldn't say that the 3D effect makes the ride any better so I'm not particularly sad to see it go. Like many others, I also found the 3D visuals to be a bit blurry, often detracting from the overall experience.
Based on Pixar's 2007 animated comedy film Ratatouille, the trackless dark ride opened at Walt Disney Studios Park in France in June 2014. The EPCOT version opened in 2021.
The trackless 4D dark ride blends physical sets with giant 3D screens and sensory effects, giving guests the feeling that they've shrunk down to the size of a rat. Guests join Remy in a culinary adventure through Gusteau's restaurant in Paris, embarking on a chaotic and fun chase through the kitchen, dining room, and restaurant walls. Disney describes the attraction:
Join Chef Remy on a daring culinary caper that will captivate all your senses as you zip, dash and scurry through the bustling kitchen, dining room and walls of Gusteau’s famous Paris restaurant. C’est magnifique!
Remy's Ratatouille Adventure is one of the more popular attractions in EPCOT, with wait times often exceeding 60 minutes. The downtime is unfortunate for guests visiting the park during these dates, but three days to transform it into a 2D experience feels pretty quick for a Disney project. The additional props and lighting enhancements will be added to the queue and attraction over the next couple of months.
