Disney has found great success with its live-action retellings of classic animated movies, and while The Hunchback of Notre Dame has seemingly stalled, a Tangled remake is thought to be in the works.
That's not all, though, as the House of Mouse is reportedly developing The Princess and the Frog as well. The animated movie was a moderate hit when it was released in 2009 and broke new ground for Disney by introducing its first Black Princess. Tiana, and the movie, have since become beloved.
With Disneyland and Disney World's Splash Mountain being overhauled with a retheme based on The Princess and the Frog, we perhaps shouldn't be surprised that a new live-action movie is in the works, but this is the first Dr. Facillier actor Keith David has heard about it.
The Shadowman actor took to Twitter to share the rumour, telling fans: "I'm not sure if this is true, but I do know that Disney has not asked me to reprise the role of Dr. Facilier!"
It's rare for the voice actors from these animated movies to reprise their respective roles, though David would be very well suited to the live-action Facilier. In all honestly, it's likely that this project is far too early in the development stages for anyone to be added to the cast and the movie hasn't even been announced yet.
The Princess and the Frog also starred Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Jim Cummings, Jennifer Cody, John Goodman, Peter Bartlett, Jenifer Lewis, Oprah Winfrey, and Terrence Howard.
Set in New Orleans during the 1920s, the movie tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor, Tiana becomes a frog herself and must find a way to turn back into a human before it is too late.
Stay tuned for updates.
