Pixar's SOUL Currently Boasts A 97% Certified Fresh Score On Rotten Tomatoes: "Thoughtful, Visually Stunning"

After multiple COVID-related delays, Pixar's Soul is finally making its debut on Disney+ on Christmas day. Unlike Mulan, which charged subscribers $30 to rent the film, there's no additional premiere access fee required to watch it. But if you're on the fence for some reason, or just unsure of what to expect, perhaps its impressive Rotten Tomatoes score can convince you to give it a shot.

Soul was actually officially certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes back in October. At the time, it had a perfect rating of 100% on the review aggregator website. Since then, more reviews have come in and with a total count of 155, it still boasts an impressive 97%. In other words, Soul is another Pixar hit.

The critical consensus reads: "A film as beautiful to contemplate as it is to behold, Soul proves Pixar's power to deliver outstanding all-ages entertainment remains undimmed."

In its own editorial wrap-up, Rotten Tomatoes -- citing various critics -- called Soul "thoughtful, fun, visually stunning, and particularly meaningful for adults." Considering the story being told and the complicated life questions it attempts to answer, it's not hard to see why Soul might appeal towards adults.

Critics warn that Soul is quite the emotional story and you'll probably want tissues nearby as you watch. But while adults will relate to the philosophical nature of the subject being addressed -- supposedly it's the most "adult-themed Pixar movie yet" -- kids will also appreciate the film.

What is it that makes you...YOU? This Christmas only on Disney+, Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new feature film “Soul” introduces Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) – a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions.

Soul is directed by Pete Doctor (Inside Out, Up) and co-directed by Kemp Powers (One Night in Miami). It stars Jmie Foxx and Tina Fey. You can catch the movie streaming exclusively on Disney+ beginning December 25.
