Disney+ hasn't been available for a full year yet, but it still seems like new original titles are few and far between for the streaming service, especially compared to rival companies like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu that drop new original productions all the time. With Disney+ as an umbrella over Marvel Studios, LucasFilm, Pixar, and National Geographic, it would seem as though there would be plenty of originals created already.
Luckily for animation fans, Pixar has just released a new short on the streaming service under the Sparkshorts banner. Compared to many of the other shorts that get overlooked, this one is actually gaining a lot of traction and may help bring new subscribers to the platform.
The series in question is titled Out, and the reason it is such a big deal is because it marks a first for the animation studio. Out features Pixar's first openly gay lead, which will hopefully set up a new precedent for representation in the animation medium.
