A new TV spot for Disney's Wish has surfaced on social media, revealing the moments before Asha interviews with King Magnifico to become his assistant. She goes on to discover that Magnifico has nefarious plans for the hundreds of wishes he's keeping locked away.
As part of Disney's 100th anniversary celebration, Wish is said to reference dozens of past Disney Animated classics.
For instance, co-directors Christopher Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that fans should keep their eyes peeled for a shot of the Evil Queen's poison apple when the movie shifts to King Magnifico's workshop. This is but one of several easter eggs scattered throughout the film.
Wish appears to be a return to normalcy for Disney after a string of box office flops, as it is set in a magical country and has an evil wizard as the film's antagonist. Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney struggled to produce an animated box office hit with Lightyear and Strange World. Elemental barely managed to break even after recovering from a disastrous opening weekend.
The film had a special presentation earlier this year at the Destination D23 Event at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, where the audience was given the opportunity to view the first 10 minutes of the film. Although the footage was not made public, positive social media buzz declared Wish to be a must-see film.
Wish is dedicated to Disney animation legend Burny Mattinson, who worked at the studio from 1953 until he passed away in February of 2023.
