When it comes to holiday specials, they almost always focus on the good guys. But this October, Disney, Lucasfilm and LEGO Group are ready to celebrate the villainous dark side of Star Wars.
LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, a newly announced animated special, will arrive on Disney+ on October 1 — just in time for Halloween.
Set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the special will follow Poe Dameron and BB-8 as they make an emergency landing on the volcanic planet Mustafar. The two meet Graballa the Hutt, a greedy and conniving crime boss who has purchased Darth Vader's castle with the hope of turning it into the galaxy's first all-inclusive Sith-inspired luxury hotel. While waiting for his ship to be repaired, Poe, BB-8, Graballa and Dean (Graballa's plucky and courageous mechanic) venture deep into the mysterious castle with Vader's loyal assistance, Vaneé.
Vaneé shares three creepy stories linked to ancient artifacts and iconic villains from across the Star Wars timeline, while luring the heroes deeper into the underbelly of the castle. As a sinister plan starts to emerge, our heroes will have to face their fears and stop an ancient evil from rising.
The announcement was accompanied with a poster highlighting an Imperial grave with a hand holding the signature red lightsaber busting out of the ground. Additionally, Lucasfilm has already revealed the voice cast. Unlike last year's LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, none of the actors from the original films will be joining the project, but there are still some big names attached.
The impressive voice cast includes Jake Green as Poe Dameron; Raphael Alejandro as Dean; Dana Snyder as Graballa the Hutt; Tony Hale as Vaneé; Christian Slater as Ren; Trevor Devall as Emperor Palpatine; and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn as NI-L8.
LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales will reunite the duo of Ken Cunningham and David Shayne. Cunningham, who also directed The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, is returning to the director's chair once again with David Shayne serving as writer and executive producer. LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales was produced in collaboration with Atomic Cartoons, the same studio that worked on The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special.
