While doing the press rounds while celebrating the 15th anniversary of The Book of Mormon on Broadway, actor Josh Gad stopped by Good Morning America when the subject of Disney's Frozen 3 came up.
While the Olaf actor couldn't share specific details about the plot, he did reveal that Frozen 3 is the funniest of the three films in the trilogy.
"I can tell you, I've started recording," Gad told the Good Morning America hosts. "It's the funniest of the three movies I've ever recorded. I'm laughing my butt off."
Gad also revealed that he's heard some of the songs in the movie, calling them "incredible."
"I've heard two fo the songs," he said. "They are incredible. Bob [Robert Lopez] and Kirsten [Anderson-Lopez] wrote the music again. It's incredible."
Frozen 3 was officially announced back in February 2023 during Disney's earnings call by former CEO Bob Iger. Later that year, Iger also revealed that Frozen 4 was also in the works. This seems to suggest that the story of Frozen 3 will likely exist as the first half of a larger story that will be resolved in Frozen 4, something we similarly see in major franchises like Marvel.
"There's some unbelievable stuff," Gad added. "Unbelievable developments."
As Gad stated, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are returning to write the songs for Frozen 3, and presumably Frozen 4 as well. The songwriting duo wrote all of the major songs from the first two films, including "Let It Go", "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?", "Into the Unknown", and "Show Yourself."
The Frozen franchise is just as famous for its award-winning soundtrack as it is for its beloved characters and story. The songs "Let It Go" and "Into the Unknown," in particular, have become worldwide hits. It's never easy to replicate the same success, but their return should bode well for the next two movies.
The first two Frozen movies have combined to earn more than $2.7 billion worldwide, making it one of Disney's most successful animated franchises ever. At the time of their releases, both films held the title of the highest-grossing animated movie ever, with Frozen becoming the first animated film to cross $1 billion worldwide. Frozen 2 would later surpass its predecessor and also briefly become the highest-grossing animated film of all-time before eventually being overtaken in 2024 by Pixar's Inside Out 2, which earned roughly $1.46 billion worldwide.
Frozen 3 is currently scheduled to release in theaters on November 24, 2027. Frozen 4 does not yet have a date announced.
