Mickey Saves Christmas is set to debut this weekend. The new stop-motion animated special is part of Disney's cheerful and festive programming that will run through the holiday season.
Mickey Saves Christmas will premiere on Sunday, November 27th at 7:00 p.m. EST on ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD. It will come to Disney+ and Hulu for streaming the following day on Monday, November 28th.
The holiday special follows Mickey, Minnie, and their pals as they attempt to celebrate the perfect Christmas at their snowy cabin. But when Pluto causes Santa to lose all of the presents on his sleigh, the group must travel to the North Pole on a quest to save Christmas and find the true meaning of the holiday.
Mickey Saves Christmas is a collaboration between Disney and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, a production and animation company that specializes in stop-motion animation. The studio has worked on Robot Chicken, Titan Maximum, and SuperMansion, and more.
Director David H. Brooks spoke to Animation Magazine a bit about the upcoming special, detailing some of the visual inspirations for the show. Naturally, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was used as inspiration, alongside previous 2D Mickey Mouse Christmas films.
"There were so many styles we took as inspiration, but we looked very closely at the past 2D Mickey Mouse Christmas films in our design process," Brooks explained. "Our production designer Chris Zollna took those visuals and worked to update the style to create a contemporary feel. Of course, we looked at The Nightmare Before Christmas for the North Pole sequences."
The special is directed by David H. Brooks (Ultra City Smiths) and features original music from the songwriting team Laura Schein and Ben Zeadman (Honor Society). Real-life couple Brock Powell (Disney Channel's Hamster & Gretel) and Camryn Grimes (The Young and the Restless) voice Santa and Mrs. Claus, respectively.
Mickey Saves Christmas is just one small part of Disney's packed lineup of festive programming. Disney Channel's Fa-lala-lidays and Disney Junior's Magical Holidays will serve as the hub for Disney Branded Television's holiday-themed content which will run through Monday, January 2. Fans can also tune in to special holiday-themed episodes of Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends, Puppy Dog Pals, Alice's Wonderland Bakery, and Eureka!
Be sure to catch Mickey Saves Christmas on Sunday, November 27 on ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney XD. You can also stream it on Disney+ and Hulu the following day, Monday, November 28th.
