Disney Lorcana, the new collectible trading card game from German game maker Ravensburger, has been all the rage since its release last month. The debut set for the card game, titled The First Chapter, has been hard to come by for many who have shown interest in the game. With new boosters coming in October and a reprint slated for early 2024, those who are interested in the game will hopefully get another chance at adding to their collection.
In the meantime, Ravensburger is pushing ahead with plans to release the second set for Lorcana. Revealed earlier this month, Disney Lorcana TCG’s second set is titled Rise of the Floodborn, and dips into the inky origins of floodborn glimmers.
The six magical inks… Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel, were released in a mixed-up chaotic form, resulting in a mysterious flood which damaged the Great Illuminary. When storyborn or dreamborn glimmers encounter this mixed ink, they surge with a power that changes them, transforming them into floodborn glimmers. As the magical ink poured out of the illuminary, treasured lore went with it, including King Triton’s powerful trident.
Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn will feature more than 200 cards with brand-new artwork, including the debuts of fan-favorite characters like Winnie the Pooh and Tiana. Additionally, we'll get new cards and artwork inspired by six additional Disney stories: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Zootopia, The Great Mouse Detective, The Jungle Book, and Raya and the Last Dragon.
Releasing in November, Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn will introduce two new starter packs -- Amber/Sapphire or Amethyst/Steel. Each starter deck includes a premade deck of 60 cards (two of which are foiled) with a unique playstyle, along with a booster pack, rules book and playing tokens. The Amber/Sapphire deck features The Queen – Commanding Presence and Gaston – Intellectual Powerhouse as foils, while Amethyst/Steel has Merlin – Shapeshifter and Tiana – Celebrating Princess as the foils. The Disney Lorcana starter decks are supposed to retail for about $16.99 but short supply often sees scalpers charging double, sometimes triple the MSRP.
There's also a new Illumineer’s Trove for Set 2, which is similar to the one for Set 1. Priced at $49.99, the trove, which also doubles as a storage box, includes two deck boxes, 8 booster packs, 15 game tokens and a player's guide. There's also the path of adding to your collection through traditional booster packs. Set 2 booster packs can be spotted with Raya, the Queen of Hearts, and the Beast on the wrappers, but each contains 12 random cards regardless of which you purchase.
For the really serious collectors out there, arriving alongside Set 2 will be the Disney Lorcana: Disney100 Edition. This set features six cards from The First Chapter and Rise of the Floodborn with never-before-seen alternate artwork drawn by actual Disney animators from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Each card features an exclusive Disney100 frame design, a satin holographic foil finish, and a copy of the animator’s signature prominently displayed. The set also includes four booster packs for Rise of the Floodborn.
Like the first set, Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn will be released first at local game stores, starting November 17th. The wider release, which includes big box retailers like Target, Best Buy and Gamestop, will follow on December 1st. This is also when the Disney100 Edition will be available.
