Last month, we got our first proper look at Emma Stone as the iconic and legendary Disney villain Cruella de Vil in the trailer for Cruella. She was brilliant, bad, and a little bit mad. Today, Disney released a new sneak peek from the upcoming live-action feature film, giving us an even better look at the "Queen of Mean."
Fittingly set to a punk-ish version of the track "These Boots Are Made for Walking," clip takes us to a 1970s London where we see Emma Stone's character, Estella, simply trying to make a life for herself. Fed up with her day job, the young grifter believes she was meant for more in her life.
"I want to make art," she says. "And I want to make trouble."
We are then introduced to Emma Thompson's Baroness von Hellman, "a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute." She questions whether Estella has the "killer instinct" to which she replies: "I sure hope I do."
From there, we see just how far Estella -- aka Cruella -- will go to make a name for herself with her designs. Check out the sneak peek clip below!
Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.
Cruella is slated to hit theaters on May 28, 2021. So far there's been no word as to whether it will release simultaneously on Disney's streaming service, Disney+, in response to the pandemic.
