Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast debuted in theatres back in March 2017. The film starred Emma Watson as Belle, the titular beauty, and Dan Stevens as the titular beast. It made absolute bank at the box office, though didn't perform too amazingly critically.
Nevertheless, a standout performance was that of Gaston by Luke Evans. Similarly, fans of the film are particularly fond of Josh Gad's LeFou. A series that takes place prior to the events of the 2017 live-action film is in the works for the Disney+ streaming service. Gaston and LeFou will be the series' lead characters.
Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, best known for Once Upon a Time, serve as the series' showrunners. It's believed that only Gad and Evans will reprise their roles for the series but they're open to guest appearances — perhaps from the likes of Watson.
Said series will reportedly consist of six episodes and feature original music by renowned composer Alan Menken. Menken recently spoke with Variety about his upcoming projects wherein he seemingly revealed the title of the Beauty and the Beast prequel series — that being "The Little Town."
"I’m excited about the projects I’m doing," the legendary composer told the site. "I’m working on Disenchanted and a new Beauty and the Beast prequel, The Little Town. I’ve also been working on the new animated picture Spellbound with John Lasseter. And I’m doing a bunch of Broadway shows."
The Little Town would be fitting title since it's the name of Belle's introductory song and the titular town is where we find her as well as Gaston and LeFou at the beginning of the Disney classic. Additionally, Menken makes reference to Disenchanted which further reinforces that the long-awaited sequel (to Enchanted from 2007) is officially in the works.
