The news from Annecy continues to roll out and Toonado has you covered. In addition to updates on:

The sequel series, Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars, centers on Lars Barriga, a familiar face from the original Steven Universe show. Introduced as an older teen friend of Steven, Lars begins his journey as a moody, insecure, and often rude character, especially toward his coworker, Sadie. But over the course of the original series, Lars experiences a dramatic and unexpected transformation.

After a pivotal moment in which Lars dies and is brought back to life by Steven’s healing Gem powers, he returns with a striking pink hue and a new ability: creating portals through his hair. This resurrection marks a turning point, setting Lars on a path of growth and redemption.

By the end of Steven Universe, Lars leaves Earth behind to explore the cosmos. He becomes a space-faring rebel, captaining a ship and leading the Off-Colors, a group of misfit Gems rejected by their society.

Lars of the Stars was also the title of the 11th episode of the 32-episode final season of Steven Universe. The episode revealed that Lars has escaped the Gem Empire and was on the run from the Homeworld Gem, Emerald, having stolen one of her ships.

It seems the sequel picks up where this episode left off, following his adventures across the galaxy as he embraces his new identity and purpose.

During the Annecy presentation, Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar stated, "I miss my world and my characters. I can’t wait to share [the sequel] with you and can’t thank you enough for all your support.

Sugar will also serve as executive producer on the sequel series alongside her producing partner and husband, Ian Jones-Quartey (OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes).

Interestingly enough, rather than air the sequel on Cartoon Network, it seems Warner Bros. has sold the spin-off to Prime Video.
