Fans of the SpongeBob SquarePants animated series were ridiculously excited when THQ Nordic announced that a remake of the classic SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was being developed, and that it would be launching on consoles in 2020.
It's already August and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has already been out since the 23rd of June, giving players the chance to experience this graphically enhanced version of the all-time classic that originlly released for consoles and PC in 2003.
Thanks to information provided by Embracer Group, we now know that SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has already managed to sell over a very impressive 1 million copies. Even more impressive is the fact that the game has only been out for a bit over a month, and already sold a very respectable number of units.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated was very well received by fans, with a very solid 90/100 User Score on review aggregator site Metacritic, which is a testament to the great job the developers at Purple Lamp Studios did bringing the game back.
Critics weren't too kind to the game, though, who gave SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated some mixed to positive reviews. Interestingly enough, the most recurring complaint was that the game is just too similar to the original — which is kind of the whole point of this remake. Great job, Purple Lamp Studios.
