Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants prequel series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years will premiere on the Paramount+ streaming service on March 4, 2021. The first six episodes of the 13-episode season release at once, with the remaining seven rolling out on the platform at a later date.
The upcoming CG-animated series will follow 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals as they spend the summer at Kamp Koral. A six-minute sneak peek was recently shared during an NFL Playoff game, giving fans a dose of the show's familiar wacky humor and crazy antics.
SpongeBob fans will be getting a double dose of the beloved character as Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years will premiere alongside The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, a live-action/computer-animated hybrid film that was originally slated to release in theaters but was pushed to the streaming service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run follows SpongeBob and his pal Patrick as they set off on a mission to rescue Garry, who has been snail-napped.
Paramount+ subscribers will get to watch both on the streaming platform when it launches on March 4. As a reminder, Paramount+ isn't exactly a new service, but more of a rebrand and expansion of CBS All Access, which is already home to tons of Nickelodeon cartoons.
SpongeBob SquarePants first debuted in July 1999 and has reigned as the No. 1 animated series on television for the last 18 years. Many of the original series voice cast are reprising their roles including Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton).
