When thinking of children's animation one of the last voices that would come to mind is understandably SNL veteran Rob Schneider (The Hot Chick, Deuce Bigolo: Male Gigolo) yet a new series is now on the docket that sees the vocal talent led by none other than the comedian himself.
Recently having premiered on The Daily Wire's Bentkey station, Chip Chilla is already under fire for being too similar to popular children's program Bluey but fans of Axe Cop will want to give the series a chance as it hails from the show's co-creator Ethan Nicolle. The series promises to hold heartwarming humor set in a home where a family is responsible for ensuring the youngsters learn on their own with home-schooling, a plot that is likely to grab the attention of those who learned in similar capacities.
Joining Schneider in the voice cast are Josiah Hidalgo, Lucy Capri, Deacon Branscum, and Laura Osnes, so the comedian is carrying name recognition squarely on his shoulders for this project.
The release information for the new series is as follows.
SYNOPSIS: “Chip Chilla” invites you to join the adventures of a close-knit family of homeschooled chinchillas: Chum Chum (Rob Schneider), Chinny (Laura Osnes), Charla, Chip, Chubbly, and their pet, Bug. In each episode, Mom and Dad create a world of wonder and excitement where the kids get to discover everything from world history to classic books, and most importantly, how to care for others. At its heart, “Chip Chilla” is a celebration of a family that deeply loves each other and has a blast while learning lessons that will last a lifetime.
CREATED BY: Ethan Nicolle and Eric Branscum.
CAST: Josiah Hidalgo as ‘Chip,’ Lucy Capri as ‘Charla, ’Deacon Branscum as ‘Chubbly’, Laura Osnes as ‘Chinny’ and Rob Schneider as ‘Chum Chum.’
Will this be a successful venture for Schneider or is the comedian destinied to remain in Adam Sandler's shadow even in voice acting? After all, his pal is plenty successful with the Hotel Transylvania franchise, so maybe he can capture some of that magic.
Do you guys think this seems like a ripoff of Bluey or does it seem original enough to warrant a separate series from Bentkey? Regardless of your take, be sure to check out the trailer for Chip Chilla below and share your thoughts in the usual spot!
