Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block is known for their airing of many adult cartoons like Rick and Morty. Following the successful Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland production are the second Season of Vernon Chatman's (South Park) Shivering Truth and the new series JJ Villard's Fairy Tales, both of which will highly benefit from following Rick and Morty.

Robert Englund, who is best known for his decades-spanning prortrayal of the terrifying Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, is lending his voice to JJ Villard's new series, Fairy Tales. The voice cast features many horror icons such as Linda Blair (The Exorcist), Jennifer Tilly (Child's Play), Warwick Davis (Leprachaun), Finn Wolfhard (It), John Kassir (Tales From the Crypt), Corey Feldman (Gremlins), and many more so Englund is in good company.

We recently had the amazing opportunity of chatting with Englund, and we learned a lot from him about his work on Fairy Tales. Robert was happy to share his love and endorsement for creator, director, and fellow voice cast member JJ Villard.

Also, we find out whether or not he and Linda Blair (The Exorcist), who plays Goldilocks in the same episode, cross paths during recording and he explains how her voice effects his performance. Take a look at what he had to say below!

Joe: I spoke with JJ last week and he’s got this energy and this punk aesthetic going on with the show and I feel as though it bleeds out of his personality based on what I got from when I spoke with him.

Robert Englund: He reminds me a lot of the horror director Adam Green. I was with him at the Comic Con down in San Diego, the best comic con, the original comic con, the biggest comic con in the world. Everybody was there. Clive Owen was there, Nicole Kidman was there, the cast of Big Bang Theory was there and he had one of the biggest lines of everybody because he’s such a genuine fanboy and lover of genre. And he had t-shirts, giveaways, and trivia contests.

And JJ has that same energy. And you want to just keep talking to him like “have you seen this movie, have you seen that movie, have you seen Blue Ruin, have you seen Hold the Dark?" and I just want to shoot the s*** with him because he loves a lot of cool stuff. He’s one of those guys that is just real creators and fans too. He’s worked on the Shrek movies and everything so he’s really like a part of contemporary culture.

Joe: Which of the stars did you work with on your episode?

Robert Englund: I never got to work with Linda (Blair) because she had come in and laid her stuff down already. And I’m glad they told me that she had already done it because I was picturing like a valley girl but when they said Linda I knew that this Goldilocks was going to be a little meaner and a little cooler and that kind of helped me.

It’s unfortunate because I would have loved to hang out with Linda in the studio because she and I go way back. We’ve met at festivals and conventions and we’ve done charity events before. She’s a great gal and its always fun to see people and catch up.

So when I do voice-overs you never know who you’re gonna run into, like Brian Doyle Murray and Mark Hammil. And it's always fun to go up and do this in your shorts and pajamas if you want.

A new, twisted, fun take on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales like Cinderella and Snow White. The charm and cuteness of the original stories remain, but now they've been updated and packaged into a ball of raw, visceral, gross weirdness.

The animated quarter-hour series is created, and executive produced by JJ Villard (King Star King) and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. Voice talent this season includes Linda Blair, Warwick Davis, Robert Englund, Corey Feldman, Alan Oppenheimer, Jennifer Tilly, and Villard himself among others.

In the premiere episode titled, “Boypunzel,” a long haired boy is trapped in a tower by a witch.

JJ Villard's Fairy Tales airs Sundays at 12:15 am on Adult Swim.
