X-Men: The Animated Series premiered in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit with comic book fans and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates today.
It's no wonder then that Marvel Studios is revisiting the franchise in the upcoming Disney+ revival X-Men '97, with most of the original cast returning to pick up where the series left off. We'd hoped to see it launch later this year, but with Marvel Studios slowing down its output, we've been hearing for a while that a 2024 debut is likely.
Now, that appears to have been confirmed.
While this is only an approximation, it makes sense when this year looks set to conclude with live-action MCU shows Loki and Echo. Squeezing X-Men '97 in there probably wouldn't do the series much good, and kicking off 2024 with the long-awaited animated series would be a smart way to get as many eyes on the revival as possible.
The X-Men will eventually be rebooted for live-action, and X-Men '97 seems like a great way to familiarise many fans with the team before they join the MCU. After all, Fox's movies are quickly becoming a distant memory and, outside of a few exceptions, are best off forgotten.
