The Walt Disney Company is marking its 100th anniversary this year and, as part of that, the studio will celebrate the incredible storytellers, creators, and fans who, together, spark the magic and wonder of Disney.
Disney 100 is also a celebration of timeless storytelling and unforgettable characters that have entertained and inspired people of all ages for a century, and Marvel Comics will get in on the action and mark the occasion with a special monthly Disney 100 Variant Cover Program featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and more.
The variant program, in honour of Disney 100, will celebrate Marvel's past, present, and future through the classic "What If" lens with a fantastic reimagining of some classic comic book covers.
We've already seen these first-of-their-kind art pieces pay homage to the foundational stories of the Marvel Universe and celebrate some of Marvel's more modern game-changing stories. Now, we see Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck suit up as three of their most inspirational superheroes: Captain Marvel, Ghost-Spider, and Ms. Marvel.
The new covers place Minnie and Daisy in key turning points like Carol Danvers getting ready to go higher, further, and faster in Captain Marvel #1, Kamala Kahn's first solo outing in Ms. Marvel #1, and Ghost-Spider's multiverse-shattering debut, Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (all of which took place in 2014, an important year for women in comics).
With 12 covers in total, it's said we can look forward to a new Disney 100 variant cover hitting stands each month of 2023 at local comic book shops.
The variant covers will be found on select upcoming issues of Amazing Spider-Man with the next one expected to appear on the milestone issue #25 on May 10.
