BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER Co-EP Jase Ricci Talks Show's Move To Amazon And The Episodes He's Written (Exclusive)

Batman: Caped Crusader recently found a new home on Prime Video, and co-executive producer Jase Ricci has reacted to the move as well as sharing insights into what his work on the series has consisted of.

Last year, we learned that HBO Max would no longer stream the Batman: Caped Crusader animated series, prompting Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves to take the show on the road and pitch it to other streamers. Like Batgirl, Zaslav didn't view the show as a major draw for subscribers and would rather earn big bucks from another platform buying it from them.

For a time, it appeared as if that might be it for Timm's long-awaited return to the DC Animated Universe, but Amazon Prime Video recently picked the show up for at least two seasons.

Talking to us about his work on Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham, writer Jase Ricci (Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse) shared some insights into his contributions to the show.

"I’m a co-EP on Bruce Timm’s new Caped Crusader series and wrote the first episode for that and worked on the finale and a bunch of other episodes," he explained. "It’s just really fun to take this character who, despite there being so many different interpretations, there’s something very solid at the core there that people respond to."

"It’s tapping into that commonality and that common idea but building out how you want to make it different."

We then asked Ricci about the uncertainty that surrounded Batman: Caped Crusader for a number of months, with the writer sharing his relief that the show will now see the light of day.

"Yeah. There was some uncertainty, but part of me was like, ‘C’mon, somebody is gonna want to see this show.’ [Laughs] I don’t know how far I can talk about it, but in the back of my mind, I had absolute faith," he says. "It is so exceptional and so much fun."

"I didn’t want it to be Batgirl because I was heartbroken about that as it was a movie I really wanted to see. I know it’s apples and oranges, but still…in my heart of hearts, I knew it was going to go somewhere. It’s great news."

There's currently no word on a premiere date for the animated series, though it has been confirmed that the first season will consist of 10 episodes. As someone who wrote the premiere and worked on the finale, Ricci was clearly an integral part of the storytelling process on Batman: Caped Crusader, so we believe it when he says it's "exceptional."

Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham will be available to own on Digital, 4K and Blu-ray on March 28, 2023!
