Just a few weeks ago, we reported that Zootopia 2 was celebrating a very big milestone, having surpassed the $1.45 billion grossed by Frozen 2 at the box office to become Walt Disney Animation Studios' highest-grossing film of all-time.
While that was certainly a big accomplishment, we also reminded readers that Disney owns a second animation studio in Pixar, and that technically, the $1.698 billion grossed by Inside Out 2 in 2024 made it Disney's biggest animated film.
Well, a little over two weeks later, Zootopia 2 can unequivocally lay claim to the title of highest grossing Disney film as it has just eclipsed the $1.7 billion mark, surpassing Pixar's Inside Out 2.
Zootopia 2 has now amassed $393.24 from North American theaters and a staggering $1.313 billion from international territories, including $6q8.9 million from China alone.
Zootopia 2 is now the #9 highest-grossing film of all-time and #2 animated pic of all-time, trailing only China's Ne Zha 2 ($2.25 billion), which it is not expected to catch. However, the sequel can still lay claim to the title of the highest-grossing animated Motion Picture Association (MPA) film of all time.
With Zootopia 2 director Jared Bush now calling the shots at Walt Disney Animation Studios as its new Chief Creative Officer, reports indicate that the wait for Zootopia 3 should be much, much shorter.
The original sequel took nine years to reach theaters, debuting in late 2025, but Disney is reportedly aiming to have Zootopia 3 ready within the next five to six years.
