News has broke on a new animated, direct-to-video feature film from WB Animation titled Batman: Soul of the Dragon. The film will be set in the 1970s and will see Bronze Tiger, Richard Dragon and Lady Shiva (three of the preeminent martial arts masters in the DC Universe) co-star alongside the Dark Knight. It seems that these three were actually all students along with Batman under the tutelage of O-Sensei, a somewhat obscure DC Comics martial arts master with ties to all four characters.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the voice cast for the project which notably sees someone other than Kevin Conroy, Jason O'Mara or Troy Baker under the cowl as David Giuntoli (Grimm, 13 Hours) voices Bruce Wayne/Batman for the first time. Joinng Giuntoli are Mark Dacascos as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, Michael Jai White as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger, James Hong as O-Sensei and Josh Keaton as Jeffrey Burr/Kobra. Michael Jai White previously portrayed a live-action version of Bronze Tiger on The CW's Arrow.
Legendary Batman: The Animated Series director Bruce Timm is serving as executive producer with WB Animation veteran Sam Liu directing. Jeremy Adams, who wrote Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is writing the script. The film currently has an early-2021 release date.
H/T to GWW who first reported the news back in June.
