Warner Bros. Turned Down MORTAL KOMBAT VS. DC UNIVERSE Crossover Movie Reveals Writer Jeremy Adams

In recent years, Warner Bros. Animation has released various DC and Mortal Kombat movies but could the two franchises ever be brought together? Unfortunately, it sounds like the studio decided against it!

Jeremy Adams (Justice League: Warworld) has lent his talents to heaps of DC animated movies and also penned each instalment of the Mortal Kombat Legends film series. The writer obviously knows his way around both franchises, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that he pitched a crossover to Warner Bros. Animation.

Talking to ComicBook.com, the scribe was asked whether the fact he frequently jumps between both animated properties could lead to an eventual meeting between the likes of Batman and Sub-Zero.

"I would lower your expectations," he admitted. "I don't know if they have any plans to do more. I do know that we pitched that a while ago, but it was kind of rebuffed. I think it would be really cool though. Trust me, I would love to see a DC Mortal Kombat. That would be super, super cool."

With DC Studios set to take a more active role in all DC content, there are concerns that these direct-to-DVD animated features will soon be no more. James Gunn has been very clear about wanting to use the same actors and iterations of these characters across all mediums, so the DCAU's future is now uncertain.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe event movie surely wouldn't have been a big ask because we saw these characters go head-to-head way back in 2008 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox.

In that, we picked up with Raiden, Earthrealm's God of Thunder, and Superman, Metropolis' Man of Steel, as they fought back invasions from both their worlds. An attack by both Raiden and Superman simultaneously in their separate universes causes the merging of the Mortal Kombat and DC villains, Shao Kahn and Darkseid, resulting in the creation of Dark Kahn, whose mere existence causes the two universes to begin merging.

However, if it was allowed to continue, it would result in the destruction of both and, from there, a lot of fighting ensued. Since the game was released, we've seen DC characters frequently appear in the Mortal Kombat franchise and various fighters from that world show up in Injustice

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. Animation announced plans for a new take on Watchmen and an adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths (which is rumoured to be a three-part event).

Beyond that, we don't know what the plan is, but it sadly doesn't appear as if Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is on the table right now.
