For years now, Mojang and Microsoft have been trying to make a movie get made based on their immensely popular sandbox game.
Minecraft is now the bestselling game of all-time, so naturally those in charge of it want to cash in on that further.
Warner Bros. acquired the rights to a
Minecraft movie back in 2014 - though multiple were attempted before then. The Warner Bros. version of the Minecraft movie has been subjected to multiple setbacks, rewrites, and the like. At the moment, it's set to release on March 4th, 2022 and be directed by Peter Sollet (
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist).
Thanks to new reports (via
Comicbook.com), we now know that Allison Shroeder has joined the project. Shroeder is an Oscar-nominated writer best known for her work on
Hidden Figures and
Christopher Robin. She's also credited as writing the highly anticipated sequel to 2013's
Frozen which will release in November of this year.
Synopsis: The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.
The Minecraft movie is set to release on March 4th, 2022.
