When Pixar was a fledgling animation studio back in 1995, they were smart to make their first movie one that would focus on plastic toys. This is because they hadn't yet mastered their craft as they have now.
While the toy characters looked pretty good back then, humans and animals were uncanny monstrosities. Compare Sid's dog from the original
Toy Story to a cat which featured in
a TV spot for the upcoming fourth instalment. Well, that's exactly what
INSIDER did in their recent video.
This video essay shows off how Pixar's animation has evolved in the twenty-four years since the original
Toy Story released in 1995. INSIDER go through essentially every one of Pixar's movies and talk about what that particular instalment taught the animation studio -
Monsters Inc. and hair for example (what with Sully being entirely covered in fur).

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
Toy Story 4 is set to arrive in theatres on June 21st, 2019.
