Mark your calendars, everyone. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie starts streaming exclusively on Peacock on Wednesday, July 30th, per Variety. That's just under four months after the movie opened in theaters.
Peacock is adding The Super Mario Bros. Movie the same day, so you can run the full franchise back to back.
The streaming debut caps a monster run. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has grossed just over $1 billion worldwide on a $110 million budget, with about $429.7 million of that domestic, per Box Office Mojo. It was the first film of 2026 to cross the billion-dollar line, and it posted the year's biggest global opening along the way.
We covered that $100 million opening-weekend debut back when it shrugged off the early reviews, and it only climbed from there. It also became the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever. The only film ahead of it? Its own predecessor. Between the two of them, Illumination and Nintendo's Mario films have now pulled in more than $2 billion combined.
For those keeping score at home, the movie opened in US theaters on April 1st, hit digital on May 19th, and landed on 4K and Blu-ray on June 16th. The first film walked the same Universal-to-Peacock path, reaching the service a few months after its 2023 theatrical run, so this timing lands right on schedule. Peacock is the last stop, and the first one that's included if you're already subscribed.

What's Next For Mario On The Big Screen
Illumination and Nintendo already have their next event film dated for April 12th, 2028. Reports point to a Donkey Kong spin-off, but Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed the project yet.
This next one is pure RUMOR: Jack Black appeared to let a third Mario film for 2029 slip in an interview. Neither studio has confirmed it, so it's a fun maybe for now.
Video game animation went from a punchline to the most reliable box office genre going, and Mario is the franchise that proved it twice. A billion dollars, a dated 2028 follow-up, and a possible 2029 threequel is a slate most live-action franchises would trade for. Not bad for a plumber who started life as an arcade sprite back in 1981!
