A huge new gallery of stills from The Super Mario Bros. Movie has found its way online, offering a fresh look at several key characters and (potentially spoilery) moments from the long-awaited video game adaptation.
Say what you will about some of the casting decisions Illumination has made, but this looks like a very faithful take on the beloved property that's going to be crammed full of Easter Eggs for fans to get a kick out of.
During a recent interview with CBR, Mario actor Chris Pratt confirmed that The Super Mario Bros. Movie has a post-credits scene which lays the groundwork for the animated franchise's future.
"Listen, there's like, at the end of the film, there's a post-credit sequence that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be about. And that gets me very, very excited," the Guardians of the Galaxy star teased. "But there's been talk of Luigi's Mansion. That was a Gamecube game. I think that would be great."
Earlier this month, it was reported that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently eyeing an Easter weekend debut of $85 million - $90 million from Wednesday through Sunday. All signs point to this one being a huge box office hit and we're sure that will lead to the sequel and possible spin-offs Pratt is teasing above.
From Nintendo and Illumination comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as Bowser, as Toad, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to be released in theaters on April 5, 2023.
