Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo have dropped a new poster for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with the spotlight put squarely on Mario Kart's Rainbow Road.
As you can see, Mario, Princess Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong are all featured, as is a surprise addition in Cranky Kong. That relatively obscure character first debuted in 1994's Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo. Meant to serve as a reboot of the franchise, it gave Donkey and Diddy Kong a number of animal companions.
Take a closer look at Donkey Kong's kart and you might notice a small hood ornament that appears to be Rambi the Rhino!
Cranky Kong is set to be voiced by Fred Armisen, and rumours have swirled for months about a potential Donkey Kong spin-off. Providing The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a hit, we're sure that and a sequel will eventually become a reality. Throw in the fact Universal Studios Japan is expanding Super Nintendo World with Donkey Kong Country, and a solo movie makes sense.
Recently, we learned that The Super Mario Bros. Movie will have a shorter runtime than even Sonic the Hedgehog, and you can find more details on that by clicking here.
