There's been a lot of discussion surrounding The Super Mario Bros. Movie, though that's primarily focused on its A-List cast. However, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach is one decision that's perhaps received the most support from fans.
The Queen's Gambit and Furiosa star does appear to be a perfect fit for the beloved video game character, and while we've yet to hear this interpretation of Mario's greatest love, we're confident the übertalented Taylor-Joy will make Peach her own. It's also become clear that this role is one that really resonated with the actress.
After all, this Halloween, Taylor-Joy was transformed into a real-life Princess Peach, and you can check out the photos below.
Needless to say, if we ever get another live-action Super Mario movie (and we're not holding out hope for one), then The New Mutants star should be any studio's first choice to put their spin on the fan-favourite female protagonist.
The first trailer for Mario's long-overdue big screen return received a mostly positive response online. However, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt's take on the character has been predictably divisive, with many arguing he basically just sounds like...Chris Pratt.
That's a departure from the video game Mario, though what little we heard did suggest he's added a little flair to the hero. Charlie Day, meanwhile, is going to lend his voice to Luigi, and Seth Rogen has been tapped to star as Donkey Kong.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film also stars Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.
