For the first time in the
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise's history, the iconic blue speedster will be venturing into the realm of film. Releasing on November 19th,
Sonic the Hedgehog will star Ben Schwartz (who will serve as the voice of the titular character), James Marsden, and Jim Carrey.
Though the film will be releasing in about seven months, we're yet to actually get a trailer for it. Thus far, only a foreboding poster has been officially released. However, some seemingly official promotional artwork did leak online within the past couple months. In that artwork, we can see the film will be ditching a couple of Sonic's most recognisable aspects - his shoes, cyclops-eye, etc.
Schwartz recently spoke with
Comicbook.com where he confirmed that the live-action video-game adaptation will reference the source material in a different way. Apparently Sonic the Hedgehog will feature many Easter Eggs which only dedicated fans will be able to recognise.
"There are Easter eggs. There are very fun Easter eggs that people who play Sonic (games) will really enjoy and understand."
Naturally, we don't know just what these Easter Eggs will be just yet, however they will likely have something to do with the many iconic location and characters of the
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise - like Green Hills, Tails and Knuckles.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be speeding into theatres on November 19th, 2019.
