Fans of the
Sonic the Hedgehog video game series had been waiting for quite a long time to see footage of the upcoming live-action movie, and today Paramount has finally released a trailer that introduces us to Ben Schwartz's Sonic, Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik, and James Marsden's Tom Wachowski.
The trailer itself seems to capture Sonic's personality decently enough, but what may have fans split on the movie is Sonic's new design — which gives the iconic blue hedgehog some very human-like body proportions, not to mention the fact that his face looks almost nothing like the beloved character.
Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik is played in a very cartoonish kind of way, but it looks like it could end up fitting the movie's premise better than we could anticipate by just looking at the trailer. The good news is that by the end of the trailer, Carrey's Robotnik looks more like the video game counter part but, again, this still may not win over fans.
Not only did Paramount release a trailer for the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie, but they have also released a colorful new poster that has Sonic running up a building and being chased by what seems to be this movie's idea of the classic Badnik robots.
Take a look:
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters on the 7th of November.
