In celebration of National Pet Day, Illumination has released the first official trailer for
The Secret Life of Pets 2. While the upcoming animated sequel has seen several character featurettes and teasers released already, today's trailer offers us our best look yet at the movie. It even provides us with our first bit of details in terms of plot.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 will still seemingly feature all of the crazy shenanigans as the original, as we get a look at what our four-legged pals do while we're not home; however, the overall plot seems to revolve around the relationship of Max (Patton Oswalt) and his owner's baby. Having formed a strong bond, Max is distraught to learn that the baby is going to preschool and seems to head off on an adventure to find him when he leaves one morning. From there, the trailer teases all sorts of wild events that unfold.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 will follow summer 2016’s blockbuster about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 sees the return original writer Brian Lynch (Minions) and director Chris Renaud (Despicable Me series. It's produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and longtime collaborator Janet Healy.
Together, they will hope to recreate the magic of the first movie, which set the record for the largest opening for an original film ($103.2M).
The Secret Life of Pets went on to gross $875.4M worldwide.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 opens in theaters on June 7.
